Quechee, Vermont - White Mountains

We have seen all kinds of signs letting us know to be watchful of Moose.  Now, we have a sign that says Bear Crossing!  No Moose or Bears have crossed out path.

We settled into the KOA in Quechee and did our laundry.  The corn on the cob is wonderful here at this time as it is in season.  We have eaten corn almost every night.

We headed out to the Fat Hat Corner, Fat Hat Clothing Company.  The clothes are made right there and were all beautiful and expensive.  The next stop Quechee Gorge Village.  It is a huge antique mall.  We saw things that Ma and Pa used to have and Al's old radio!  There was the old fashion rope bed (don't let the bed bugs bite).

In the same building is Cabot Cheese.  We sent home a package from Cabot of different things..  No cheese though as we had already purchased cheese.

We ate lunch at the Farmer's diner. Everything up here is Co-op.  Al hd fish and chips and I had a hamburger.
It was huge 7 oz. so I gave Al half my burger.

The weather is starting to look like rain but we head on over to the Quechee gorge , Vermonts Grand Canyon.  As we started our walk to the dam the rain started so we took shelter under the Cypress trees growing along the path.  We didn't get very wet but my hair did its thing!  The gorge was no big thing!

We found the Quechee covered bridge 13' and the Taftsville covered bridge 10'.  We were not able to go under the Taftsville bridge due to its height so we ended up going way around and into Woodstock.  We  picked up a steak at the butcher shop  and headed home.

The steak was awesome.  Al was totally impressed.

The next morning we went into Scotland by the yard.  The shop has some very unique and beautiful clothig perfect for tthe cold Vermont weather.  We picked up a few gifts.  The owner and her daughter of the Taftsville Country Store talked to us about the winters in Vermont, November thru May.  The days are short at 4:00pm it is dark.  They have ski teams at school and some snow never gets touched.

We got some ice cream in Woodstock.  I got Myers Rum Raisin, the raisins are kept in rum for five days before going into ice cream.   It was very good.

We went to Shepard's Pie Restaurant for lunch and I had the Shepard's pie.  The Shepard's that own this restaurant have been in Vermont for generations .   Don't think there is any relation.

Today is Saturday and Al's prescription is needed so we will go into New Hampshire. It is just across the river from us.  We went into Lebanon, NH and found a Walmart.  We got the prescription and headed to an
LL Bean store we passed  on the way over.

In LL Bean we met this lady who sold me some shoes and a few sweaters.  Al got some shirts.  She recommended that we go to Freeport on our way home to the largest LL Bean.  She also said that the White Mountains were awesome, Mt. Washington, Acadian National Park, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia were all places we should visit.
